The Rhopoint IQ Flex 20 is an advanced, handheld goniophotometer designed to measure the total reflective appearance of high-gloss surfaces.

Standard gloss meters only measure the total amount of light reflected at a set angle (specular gloss). The IQ Flex 20 goes further by using a 512-element linear diode array to capture a complete goniophotometric profile—analyzing how light reflects off a surface to detect micro-texture defects like orange peel and haze that traditional gloss meters miss.

Key Capabilities & Parameters Measured

In a single, rapid measurement (<2 seconds), the instrument quantifies five critical surface parameters:

1. 20° High Gloss: Optimized geometry for high-gloss coatings (>70 GU at 60° gloss angle).
2. Reflectance Haze: Detects “milky” halos or cloudy reflection effects caused by poor pigment dispersion or additives. Includes built-in compensation for metallic finishes.
3. Distinctness of Image (DOI): Quantifies reflection clarity on high-gloss finishes.
4. Reflected Image Quality (RIQ): A higher-resolution version of DOI that better mimics human eye perception when identifying orange peel and surface waviness.
5. RSPEC: Measures the peak specular reflectance along a very narrow angle.

• External Flexible Sensor Head: Features a compact external sensor head connected via cable, making it vastly superior to rigid gloss meters when measuring concave, convex, or complex-curved surfaces.
• Interchangeable Magnetic Adaptors: Offers magnetically attached plates to reduce measurement spot sizes down to 4 mm or 2 mm for small parts, buttons, and narrow trim. Custom 3D-printed jigs can also be used for repeatable sample positioning.
• Curved Surface Compensation: Automatically detects the peak reflected light and adjusts internally to prevent reading errors caused by surface curvature.
• Onboard Data Analytics: Features a color screen with auto-orienting display (portrait/landscape), onboard graph plotting, statistics, and seamless data export via USB or Bluetooth.
